it is required to run this program." Then it asks me if i want to install directx 8.1, and i click yes and my computer acts like it is installing the older version but it never actually does.
#MICROSOFT MIDI MAPPER FAIL UPDATE#
I installed the update and now music creator apparently can't even recognize that i have directx because every time i try to install it it says that "directx 8.1 was not detected on your computer. So I decided to try to help my OS by downloading the directx 9.0 update from microsoft (I had some version of 8. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program to no avail. Ever since that happened, I could install music creator but it kept freezing up every time I opened it. He deleted it to force the computer to attempt to recognize whatever the device was, which it apparently never did. AFter everything above had happened, a friend of mine who does computer tech support found a piece of hardware that as not recognized had an exclamation point next to it under the "installed devices" section under the add/remove hardware wizard. However, the difficulty does not end there. I don't know how I can tell music creator to recognize midi mapper or to integrate with it. (Which of course later resulted in all midi data being played my keyboard, which i do NOT want to happen). However when I did so the program told me that I had not chosen a midi output, and would not continue on until I chose the output for my keyboard. I chose my midi 1x1 input which was coming through my midisport uno USB adapter from my piano keyboard, and I attemped to choose the "microsoft midi mapper" as an output (which was listed along with my keyboard output) so that it would direct midi sounds through the proper internal synths. After I opened the program, it asked me to choose the midi inputs and outputs. When at first I tried installing music creator, it installed itself perfectly. I have a pentium 2.4 ghz processor (ICQ barebones system) running on Windows 2000 with a RealTek AC '97 sound card (WDM) that came with the computer.

OK, before i list the long series of problems I am having with this computer, I suppose I should mention the specs of my computer. Problems: not recognizing midi outputs, freezing up, and problems with directx 9
